You might want to gather some Kleenex before you begin reading this. Let us introduce you to Cora, a reassuring Corgi.
Cora was traveling with her owner, Coeur d’Alene resident Madison Palm, earlier this month. Cora slipped away from her owner during a stopover at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to meet a new buddy – a man sitting alone near their gate.
“Cora quietly tip-toed away from me during our crazy long layover and plopped herself right next to a complete stranger. He gave her scratches, told her how cute she was, and proceeded to take a photo of her,” Palm wrote in a Facebook post.
What looked to be a tender moment between a guy and a dog turned out to be far more. The man informed Palm, with teary eyes and a solemn expression, that he had lost his dog the night before.
Cora the Corgi has what Palm refers to as “a gift” for determining who is in need and how to assist them. Cora’s gift may soon result in her accreditation as a therapy dog since she is actively preparing for the designation.
Palm and Cora have been dating for about a year. According to USA Today, the former owner posted on Facebook that the dog had been murdering the family’s hens and gave the dog to the first person to claim her. Palm discovered Cora had spent practically her whole life outside, in the heat of summer and the chill of winter, defending her puppies, which she had a lot of. And she’d been extremely malnourished.
Cora had ear infections and rotting teeth when the two first met. However, she still had love to give.
“It took her a while to trust again (people and dogs), but that’s one of the amazing things about Cora and dogs in general: they forgive us humans even when they have every reason not to,” Palm said over the phone on Sunday. “She still loves people, despite the fact that they have been cruel to her.”
Cora’s story has been shared by major sites such as The Today Show, BuzzFeed, and Fox News, and the video has received over 400,000 views on Facebook.
“I was pretty shocked at first just at the magnitude of it but I knew people would react to it, especially those who know Cora and how amazingly sweet and gentle she is,” Palm said.
Just look at that expression.
