Messi’s goal must be forfeited because Argentina broke the law?

Many keen observers pointed out that Messi’s second goal in the Final, which came in extra time, should have been ruled out because Argentina had broken the rules. Is that correct, and what exactly is the rule?

There are some highly contentious goals in the recently concluded 2022 World Cup Final. One of them is Messi’s crucial goal in extra time.

The sharp-eyed audience (and certainly fans of the French team) pointed out that the aforementioned goal should be canceled because Argentina had violated the rules at the time Messi scored.

Messi’s shot was blocked by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the 108th minute (France). Because the ball had crossed the goal line and no Argentina player was offside, the goal was recognized.

But, instead of focusing solely on the goal, many spectators notice one more detail that they believe invalidates Messi’s goal. At the moment Messi rushed to k𝔦ck the ball, two Argentina reserve players… ran onto the field.

That’s right, these two players ran across the touchline to enter the field because they were nervous or celebrating too soon, so Argentina had 13 players on the field at the time.

Many viewers posted comments on social media sites like:

“The Argentina team has more players on the field than usual, which is 𝔦llegal.”

“How come Argentina’s fault is always overlooked?”

However, there were some viewers who disagreed with the above comments. They insist that this is not uncommon in matches, and that many cases will be overlooked. “Please read the rules again, because the other two substitutes have no effect on the situation or the game, so Messi’s goal is still valid,” someone explained.

Argentina crowned in drɑmat𝔦c cl𝔦max

Lionel Messi has finally won the most prestigious title in his final World Cup competition – the championship – after joining the Argentina team to defeat France in a penalty shootout 11m in the full final on December 18. Two goals helped this 35-year-old superstar set a World Cup record that no other player could match: scoring in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final.

Messi’s opening goal in the 23rd minute was crucial, and it inspired Argentina to play more aggressively. The first goal was scored by Di Maria after the midfielder fouled Dembele of the French team within 16.50 meters. The return of the player wearing the number 11 shirt aids Argentina’s sharp attacks on the left side. This is the biggest surpr𝔦se for Lionel Scaloni’s counterpart D. Deschamps on the other side of the bench.

The most surpr𝔦s𝔦ng result of the 44-year-old leader’s creation was Argentina actively pressing high early and strongly. Since the tournament’s inception, the 2021 South American champion has never entered the game in this manner. Coach Scaloni’s reasonable approach to the game, combined with the Argentine players’ overly impressive performance, confused the French team, leading to a mistake.
