‘Matip replacement’: Schmadtke may be the key to Liverpool signing ‘rock defender’

Micky van de Ven, a defender for Wolfsburg, is reportedly a target for Liverpool.

Inews reports that the Reds are eager to sign the 22-year-old, and sources close to the player claim that Liverpool is one of the teams that has been keeping tabs on his development.

Jörg Schmadtke is about to be introduced as Liverpool’s new sporting director, and because of his great connections in Germany, it has become increasingly likely that this young center-back will be moving to the north west.

The center-back may cost around €30m (£26m), according to prior estimates.

Due to his proficiency with the ball and ability to play out from the back, the 22-year-old has swiftly established an impressive reputation in the Bundesliga.

This is demonstrated by the fact that, according to FBref, the Dutchman ranks among his positional counterparts in the top 10% for progressive carries per 90 and the highest 15% for successful take-ons per 90 in the top five leagues in Europe.

The former star of Volendam has led the Netherlands U21 team and reached a high speed of 35.87 km/h to demonstrate his intimidating physicality and quick rate of recovery.

As Jurgen Klopp works to remodel an aging team, this young, agile, and intelligent defense fits the criteria for the Liverpool reconstruction.

Joel Matip, who has unquestionably declined from last year, is one player who might have reduced playing time in the face of this goal.

The £100k a week player averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 17 clean sheets in the Premier League the season before. However, this year, he has only managed 1.1 and 1.3 for the same stats, and he has only participated in three clean sheets.

With seven years of service and 186 games, the Cameroonian has been a tremendous asset to the Merseyside club. However, at 31 years old, he is approaching the end of his career, and the team may need to turn to a more youthful and dynamic replacement if it wants to maintain its long-term viability.

According to Ronan Murphy, the titan has been called a “giant” and someone who is “flourishing” under Niko Kovac during the course of 32 Bundesliga outings.

He has been hailed by scout Jacek Kulig as a “dominant” and “complete” defender, and he has received acclaim for his “great positioning” and “tenacious tackler.”

The acquisition of van de Ven to take the place of the ailing Matip could be key in restoring Liverpool to its rightful position, as Champions League qualifying appears to have eluded them.
