Klopp admits he wants Firmino to stay at Liverpool

Recent rumors suggest that Firmino could follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia when his contract with Liverpool expires in the summer. The port city team is aiming for a squad overhaul, with Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita also expiring in the near future.

However, coach Klopp still wants to keep Firmino at Anfield. He has spoken out about the Brazilian’s importance since his move to Liverpool in 2015: “I’ve said this before – it’s true that I want to keep him at the club.”

Firmino did not feature in Liverpool’s win over Wolves in the FA Cup because of a groin ɪɴᴊᴜʀʏ. This problem also caused the Brazilian player to miss the match against Chelsea on January 21.

With Firmino out for the next few matches, contract negotiations between him and Liverpool will continue. Also during this time, Firmino was allowed to freely negotiate with other clubs.

This season, Firmino has played a total of 21 times. He contributed 9 goals and 4 assists. On average, Firmino contributes 1 goal every 153 minutes for Liverpool.

Firmino is a reserve striker that coach Klopp trusts in case Darwin Nunez is injured or is in poor form. And Firmino’s contributions as a substitute are impressive. Firmino is only 31 years old and he can still play at the top for the next few years.
