Erling Haaland has acknowledged that he didn’t expect to have such a successful debut season in English football.
As Manchester City pursues the triple crown, he has his sights set on history. As he accepted the Footballer of the Year award from the Football Writers’ Association in London on Thursday, the striker kept his attention on City’s championship game.
Prior to Sunday’s Premier League championship game against Brentford, Haaland has 52 goals in 51 outings for City since his £51 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
Another honoree was Lauren James, who shared the Young Player of the Year title with Missy Bo Kearns of Liverpool.
Additionally, the Football Ally of the Year award went to both Harry Kane and Declan Rice, and the Wᴏᴍᴇɴ’s Football Champion of the Year award went to Arsenal icon and broadcaster Ian Wright.

Even if we won the Premier League, we must maintain our focus for the remaining two finals, according to Haaland.
“We must maintain our concentration if we are to succeed in the upcoming two finals.” I’ll exert every effort to do well in the finals and, ideally, win both.
Being favorites (against Inter Milan) is a ᴘᴏsɪᴛɪᴠᴇ thing because it shows that we have qualities. We must approach the game in our style, play our brand of football, and then we’ll see who prevails.
75 years after Sir Stanley Matthews won the inaugural trophy, Haaland won the FWA award by garnering 82% of the votes, beating out Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
He continued, “I feel good, it’s a special moment,” to the FWA. “I expected to do good things, but I didn’t expect to do this,” he said.
With three games left, Manchester City secured a third consecutive championship, having once trailed Arsenal by eight points. He broke the record for the most Premier League goals in a season with 36.
To be honest, it really just comes down to taking each game as it comes and concentrating on what we can control, said the 22-year-old.
I dislike concentrating on the past or the future. I prefer to live in the present and take each game as it comes; we perfectly followed Pep Guardiola’s instructions when he said we would do so.
We were focused, and we succeeded in achieving our goals. At the end of the day, it’s unbelievable what we accomplished after falling behind the entire season. It was incredible and felt incredible.
Sam Kerr of Chelsea won the title for ladies, making the Australian the first athlete to do so in back-to-back years. In Chelsea’s 1-0 FA Cup victory over Manchester United earlier this month, the striker scored the game-winning goal.
Chelsea, who leads Manchester United by two points, is aware that a win at Reading on Saturday will clinch the WSL championship on the final day of the regular season.
‘It’s incredible,’ Kerr exclaimed. It’s something of which I’m quite proud. Because of the Euros, ᴡᴏᴍᴇɴ’s football has expanded significantly. The throngs get larger as you proceed down the street. Over the past year, everything has simply gotten bigger.
“I believe that while to some it may appear to be simple, winning the league gets harder and harder every year,” the author says. Anyone involved in football is aware of how challenging it is to return year after year and maintain one’s position at the top. Thus, we’re making every effort to triumph on Saturday.
