The center used wheels from old toy cars and old children’s bicycles to build wheelchairs for rescue dogs who can’t walk.

The first lucky dog to be wheelchair tested in this project is Lucy. Although the weelchair is made from old children’s bicycles and toys parts, Saed al-Aer has tweaked a lot to create the most complete wheelchair for Lucy.

“Lucy is the dog that was rescued about five months ago, when she was in a very bad condition on the street, and even paralyzed in her hind legs due to a traffic accident. We tried very hard and luckily saved her life. However, Lucy lost both of her hind legs because of the serious injury.” Saed explained.

It was thanks to Lucy that brought him inspiration for this project. The way Lucy struggled with walking made Saed come up with the idea. “We will continue providing them with artificial limbs, since the possibilities here in the Gaza Strip are few, and there are no centres for artificial limbs specialised for animals,” he said.

After being fitted with a brightly colored wheelchair reused from old tires. With the help of her new assistive device, Lucy has gained a new life of being able to walk and running around outside. She was running and jumping more cheerfully than ever.

Happiness is actually not far away, it’s right in front of our eyes. And we can be the ones who will create happiness for others. The humanitarian action of this shelter will surely bring inspiration to many people and help more unfortunate disabled dogs.
