According to anonymous sources quoted by the Daily Star, Manchester City is reportedly prepared to bid the Portuguese star a permanent adieu.
Joao Cancelo’s loan move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window finally occurred after much speculation and commotion. It is common knowledge that the Blaugrana at one point considered purchasing Cancelo; but, the asking price of £55 million that Manchester City demanded caused them to reconsider.
Cancelo was offered a “substantial discount” by Man City.
Notably, this is also the valuation that Bayern Munich obtained from The Citizens, which is what caused them to abandon their plan to purchase Cancelo fully after the loan arrangement was completed. It would appear that Manchester City has shifted its position about the Portuguese star since then. Because, as reported by the Daily Star, the club that plays at Etihad Stadium has stated that they are only interested in receiving 24.3 million pounds for the services of this defender.
Cancelo has continued to demonstrate the class of a top European full-back for Barcelona this season. After making his first five games in La Liga, Cancelo has already made a big impression with two goals and one assist. It would not be surprised if the Camp Nou squad decided to buy Cancelo outright if he kept up his explosive form until the conclusion of the season. This would be the case if he continued to maintain his form until the end of the season.
